About Common Thread Crafts ATL
I've always loved having craft nights with my friends, and over time I tried a lot of different crafts. But I noticed there was always a big barrier to entry. All the thinking and planning that goes into figuring out materials, techniques, and what to make uses a totally different part of your brain than the part that just wants to relax and create. It ended up taking away from the fun of just doing.
So I wanted to create a simple, fun experience where people could get out of their thinking mind and just enjoy the activity. Common Thread Crafts is a space to share creative interests and give people the chance to craft with like-minded folks, with as little friction as possible. Everything is set up ahead of time so all you have to do is show up and enjoy!
About the Organizer
Hey! I'm Aida, the organizer behind Common Thread Crafts. Over the years I've dabbled in a little bit of everything (like weaving, woodwork, crochet, ceramics, wire sculpting, embroidery, fabric design, papercraft, even mural painting...and some others I've probably forgotten) because I just love trying new crafts. I started this space so other people could get that same joy of making something new, without the overwhelm of figuring it all out alone.
I love helping people discover new techniques or get excited about something they've created! I see crafting as a core part of the human experience, a common thread that connects every culture across the planet in some way or another. Unfortunately, in modern life it's easy to lose the time and focus for anything creative, but carving out a chunk of time to make something with your hands has a way of feeding the soul. When I'm not hosting a craft night or working my day job as an English teacher, I'm probably reading, watching horror movies, hanging out in nature, or starting yet another new project!
